a few Ipod and Itunes questions

Hi, My friend just gave me her Ipod 3rd Generation, the ITouch. It talks right out of the box. However, is there a way to temporarily turn off the announcement that lists the songs, without turning off all the speech?
Has anyone used Amazon's music downloads with their Ipod? The site says they're compatible with Ipod. Do you still have to move the songs to your ITunes library? When I import my files to Itunes, they're no longer accessible with MyMusic. Can I still use ITunes while still using Windows Media player? I think I have WMP 10 or 11.
Finally, how's the internet connecivity on the Ipod touch? Oh yeah, I'd like some feedback on the Kindle feature on the ITouch. Sorry, I posted a lot of questions, so, I'll understand if they're not all answered at once. Oh yeah, any Itunes download tips would be great. I know it takes forever to download.
Thanks
e

It's a matter of preference. You don't have to use iTunes as a media player. There is no way you can do that with the speech unless you turn it off. What I do is remember where the next track button is and keep putting my finger there when I want to skip my song.
I would assume that amazin is ust like ever other service and you have to move it to your iTunes library. The internet connectivity is pretty good. it's very reliable. It all depends on your internet connection. You should be perfectly fine. welcome to the apple world!

Thanks, how's the internet in airports or other public places?

it's not the touch that could have issues with net, it's the wireless strength and other factors like with a normal computer. also, what do you mean by ITunes being slow at downloading stuff? i have used it on several connections and that has never been the case.

I went to download it the other day, and it seemed like it took forever. Also, when I sampled a Beatles tune, It wouldn't play, and I made sure to download the latest version of Itunes. I use a PC, but the site has a link for those. My friend told me it took forever to download on her computer as well. But who knows, maybe it's our internet connection. What version of Jaws do you use, if you're a Jaws user? I'm on version 11 I think.

There's a setting within the Amazon Mp3 Downloader where you can have it automatically import your purchases into iTunes. I'm not at home where I can look at the menu and tell you exactly where to go. As I recall, there aren't many menu options in that program and it's easy to find. As for your question about getting VO to shut up while you're listening to music, there is an option in the voiceover settings that allows you to toggle VO on and off with a tripple push of the home button. I have that turned on so I can easily turn VO off when I want it to shut up then just turn it back on when I need to do something.

Oh great thanks. All helpful answers. I don't have my Ipod yet, so I might post a few more questions as necessary. I did see the option to download from Amazon to Itunes. It was when I was going to save the song. Is there a way to import songs from Windows Media player to Itunes? Some songs aren't in My Music folder. I don't want to redownload (is that a word), them again.

iTunes will convert and import any music files on your computer except for protected files. You'll have to re-rip anything that is protected. I think the import option is in the file menu but I don't remember for sure. Just browse all the menus in iTunes and you'll find it. It's pretty self explanatory. If you're installing iTunes for the first time, it will ask you if you want to import as you go through the initial setup process. The process takes quite a long time, especially if you have a lot of stuff, so be prepared to leave it for awhile to do its thing.

Okay, I haven't received my friend's Ipod touch yet. I may end up getting an IPhone in September when I'm eligible for a new every two discount. So, I'm willing to get a more plain Ipod. What's the most accessible basic Ipod. Is it the 3rd Gen? I should say what's the most basic speech-enabled Ipod. I don't wanna mess with RockBox, cause it just sounds complicated. I'm thinking I can buy one that's a model or two back on Amazon. Any ideas?
